Ye Shing Collection

The Ye Shing Collection was created in honor of my late grandfather, Ye Shing Chao. This body of work alludes to some of my favorite memories with my grandfather which ranged from watching lion dancers at New Year’s to making fun and eccentric objects for his home. Taiwanese/Chinese funeral traditions are referenced within this body work such as burning spirit money, and using spirit jars to practice honor and continued care for my loved ones who live beyond the physical realm. Although this body of work addresses the topic of death, a seemingly morose subject, it is meant to instead reflect the fun, loving relationship that existed between my grandfather and me.

This collection won the Emerging Artist Award through The Furniture Society.
